چکیده
In this paper the influence of inlet and outlet configurations a pseudo-2D fluidized riser on hydrodynamics (i.e. flow pattern cluster characteristics) are studied. A detailed comparison between experimental data full 3D CFD-DEM simulation results is performed. Solids volume fraction mass flux characterized particle clusters detected in our simulations compared to data. It shown that correct representation very important for solids holdup top section riser. The core-annulus behavior generally well predicted by model characteristics such as occurance velocity also good agreement with Finally, an outlook given future use approaches study flows.

Computational Fluid Dynamics–Discrete Element Method (CFD-DEM) Study of Mass-Transfer Mechanisms in Riser Flow
We report a computational fluid dynamics-discrete element method (CFD-DEM) simulation study on the interplay between mass transfer and a heterogeneous catalyzed chemical reaction in cocurrent gas-particle flows as encountered in risers. Slip velocity, axial gas dispersion, gas bypassing, and particle mixing phenomena have been evaluated under riser flow conditions to study the complex system be...
متن کاملRiser Modal Identification in CFD and Full-Scale Experiments
A systematic methodology is presented to obtain the vortex induced vibrational modes of a riser, based on data from CFD coupled to a long beam under tension and placed in sheared cross-flow; two profiles were tested: (a) linear, and (b) exponential. The modes we estimate are in fact nonlinear equilibria between the flow-induced excitation forces and the structural dynamics and are characterized...
متن کاملComprehensive Dem-dpm-cfd Simulations - Model Synthesis, Experimental Validation and Scalability
We report on the synthesis of the Discrete Element Method (DEM) modelling the behaviour of granular materials and a finite volume model for the continuous interstitial fluid using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). DEM captures the physics of granular materials best but is computationally time-consuming. For this reason, the DEM is complemented by a Discrete Phase Model (DPM) for disperse gran...
متن کاملQuantitative Analysis of Accuracy of Voidage Computations in CFD-DEM Simulations
CFD-DEM (Computational Fluid Dynamics – Discrete Element Modelling) is a twophase flow numerical modelling technique, where the Eulerian method is used for the fluid and the Lagrangian method for the particles. The two phases are coupled by a fluid-particle interaction force (i.e. drag force) which is computed using a correlation. In a two-phase flow, one critical parameter is the voidage (or v...
متن کاملParallel-tempering cluster algorithm for computer simulations of critical phenomena.
In finite-size scaling analyses of Monte Carlo simulations of second-order phase transitions one often needs an extended temperature range around the critical point. By combining the parallel-tempering algorithm with cluster updates and an adaptive routine to find the temperature window of interest, we introduce a flexible and powerful method for systematic investigations of critical phenomena....
